Members of the non-profit society have guided hundreds of people from all walks of life to experience the Cariboo the way it was meant to be seen - from the back of a good horse. Spend all day in the saddle exploring the country or select a shorter ride for the day and take advantage of other activities: swimming, fishing, sun bathing or just visiting. There may be an overnight ride for those who want to experience sleeping under the stars with coyotes howling in the distance and horses standing nearby.
At the end of the day, relax and enjoy an excellent supper, followed by the camaraderie of the campfire, with singing, guitar playing, square dancing, horseshoe pitching, etc. Please feel free to bring your own instrument and join in.
Guests bring their own horse, tack, tent or camper, and don't forget warm blankets and clothing as Cariboo nights can be chilly. Your horse will need to be high-lined close to your camp. Hay, oats and salt are supplied for your horse.
Members set up a base camp to accommodate the kitchen tent, campfire, hay supply, water, etc. There is ample room for tents and campers nearby.
Three meals a day are provided by our excellent cooks, starting on Sunday night after registration, right through to a bag lunch for your return trip home on the last Sunday. Guests bring their own dishes.

Entertainment included Gary Fjellguaard

The 25th annual Great Cariboo Ride 2007 base camp was held at Vert Lake. Riding varied from wide open spaces to a spectacular ride down to the Fraser River that encompassed a 2,000 foot drop in elevation. There was also a ride to the old "town" of Dog Creek on a historic pack trail. Gary Fjellguaard joined us for an evening of entertainment. Dave and Bev Abbs guided us through yet another evening of square dancing.
